i am looking for an inflateable raft/boat please help!!?
i am looking for a boat that is inflatable that can go down streams, where they might hit a rock or two… not for white water, but just streams, and things like that.. one that can stand up to alot of scraping rocks.. also looking for a good price… i would prefer something under 300-400 dollars… i would like inflatable because it can easily be stored in my trunk and wont be as bulky as a canoe or flatbottom…
if you have any ideas, please help, any experiance is also appriciated!!! thanks!!!
I went to a store today and looked at Sevylor Caravelles, Super Caravelles and Fisah Hunters, as well as Coleman boats. The Coleman Colossus boats ranged from 15-23 gauge materials. Heavier than a pool toy, but not that heavy. Sevylor Caravelles don’t actually specify the material gauge, but they are similar.
Then there is Super Caravelles and Fish Hunters. While they don’t state it, they are closer to the 30 gauge materials found on better Intex boats. They carry some Intex boats, but all models are sold out at this time, probably for the season.
There is an interesting accessory for the Fish Hunters called a boat boot. It is a nylon cover, about as heavy as a good nylon duffle bag. Protects the boat and makes it more rigid. Used to have them for Caravelles too, but not anymore. There’s some Fish Hunters where this nylon is permanently bonded to the raft. They are more money, and if you do damage the boat, you probably still can reuse the boot, just replace the boat, which makes for a good value.

The Sea Eagles are somewhat heavier at 33-38 gauge. They don’t sell them at this shop. Too bad they don’t have boat boots for these, but they are a bit expensive.
Most likely my friend (and I) will both buy 12′ boats with boots. We will have to order plywood floorboards, which also seem like a good idea. At some point, a motor mount and a electric trolling motor. The salesman said he has a 12′ Fish Hunter with a 46 lbs trolling motor, and it zips along faster than he can row.
