Considerations when Buying Small Sailboat Plans
What small sailboat plans are right for you? How can you be sure you are getting your money’s worth? This article will go through several things you’ll need to consider so that you will be assured of the perfect plans for your project.
Time
The first thing you will want to consider is what type of a project you have in mind. Are you hoping to build a sailboat in a weekend and have it on the water quickly? Are you planning on building an heirloom quality sailboat with time being less of an issue? Choosing small sailboat plans that are consistent with the scope of the project you are planning is key.
Size of boat
Where will you be sailing? Larger boats will be safer in larger bodies of water where the waters can be rougher. Larger sailboats, however, may not be as realistic to sail in smaller bodies of water, and selecting small sailboat plans may be more appropriate.
Quality
The internet is a great resource for quality products, but it is also an easy place to be taken advantage of if you are not wary. How can you be sure you are purchasing quality small sailboat plans for your money and not getting ripped off?
Before buying anything I recommend that you search for reviews of the plans to be sure you are purchasing from someone reputable and experienced. Do you need a cabin?
How will you be using your sailboat? Will it be for afternoon sails, full days, or longer? How many people will you be hosting on the sailboat? The longer you sail, and the more people you will have with you, the more likely you will be to want a cabin.
Workspace
How much space will you have to build your sailboat? You will need several times the size of your sailboat to build it in. Also, make sure the space you assemble the boat in has a way to remove the boat from. It would be a real disappointment to finish a sailboat just to realize you had no way to get it out of your basement.
