Joining the US Coast Guard Auxiliary with a boat?
I am 18 years old. I really wanted to join the USCG but I was told by a recruiter that there was little chance I would pass a medical exam due to my recent diagnoses of Lupus. Instead I was thinking about joining the Auxiliary. Is it all just Boating Safety and vessel checks? Or do they patrol a good amount? And can I use my own boat for my flotilla if I were to join? Also how does the USCG pick up for fuel costs?

That is a link to a CG forum, the auxiliary thread. There is some really good info in there. Some very knowledgeable people to talk to. I’ve never heard of someone using their own boat but I’m not sure it is impossible either. I’m sorry about the Lupus, best of luck to you with that. The auxiliary might be a really great way to be able to do the job even when you can’t necessarily make it a career. Good health.
